My Week 12 NFL Picks

Not even Matt "The Frat" Leinart can derail the Texans' playoff hopes.
The Thanksgiving games were quite entertaining, although not always for the right reasons.  (Read this to see my thoughts on what the league needs to do with Ndamukong Suh.)  We've already seen two teams, the Colts and the Chiefs, tumble out of playoff contention without their starting quarterbacks.  Will the Texans, Bears and Eagles join them?

Last week: 8-6; 7-6-1 Against the Spread
Season: 101-59; 74-79-7 ATS

Cardinals at Rams - What a lost season for Steve Spagnuolo, who now has a 10-32 record with the Rams.  Many of the young players he was hoping to develop, including franchise quarterback Sam Bradford, have been limited by injuries.  Even if coach Spags escapes the chopping block this year, it's playoffs or bust in 2012.
Pick -Cardinals
ATS - Cardinals (+3)

Bills at Jets - The chips are stacked against Buffalo in a game they absolutely need to win to have any hope for the playoffs. They've lost Fred Jackson, who is responsible for 40% of their yards on offense this season.  I don't like their chances without him against the well-rested Jets.
Pick - Jets
ATS - Jets (-9)

Browns at Bengals - Cincinnati used a sneaky quick snap to beat Cleveland in Week 1.  Ten weeks later, the Bengals are aiming for the playoffs while the Browns are looking towards the draft.  With games against the Rams and Cardinals still remaining, the Bengals could capitalize on their cream puff schedule to sneak into the playoffs.
Pick -Bengals
ATS - Browns (+7)

Texans at Jaguars - Is Matt Leinart as good as Matt Schaub?  No.  Is he going to single-handedly implode Houston's playoff hunt?  No.  The Texans have the best running game and one of the best defenses in the league.  As long as Leinart is serviceable, he will host a playoff game in January.
Pick -Texans
ATS - Texans (-6)

Panthers at Colts - There is no one more loved in Indianapolis than Peyton Manning, but Colts fans may find it hard not to pine for Andrew Luck after they see Cam Newton in action.
Pick - Panthers
ATS - Panthers (-3)

Buccaneers at Titans - The Bucs went 10-6 last season, yet already have as many losses this year with virtually the same roster.  What happened?  Look no further than their schedule.  Last year, Tampa Bay went 9-1 in 10 games against losing teams.  This year, they're 2-6 in 8 games against winning teams.
Pick -Buccaneers
ATS - Buccaneers (+3.5)

Vikings at Falcons - Adrian Peterson is out for this game, but he wouldn't have fared well anyway against Atlanta's strong run defense.  The Falcons have given Michael Turner more carries in recent weeks, but they'll ride Matt Ryan's arm in this one, as Minnesota's secondary has been one of the worst in the league.
Pick -Falcons
ATS - Falcons (-9.5)

Bears at Raiders - The last time we saw Caleb Hanie, Jay Cutler was torching his reputation on the Bears sideline during the NFC Championship.  People forget that Hanie led two touchdown drives against the Packers in that game.  I believe Matt Forte can exploit the Raiders' poor run defense just enough this week to pull out the unexpected win.
Pick - Bears
ATS - Bears (+4)

Redskins at Seahawks - It was weird watching the Dallas-Washington game last week with my friend Brian, a Redskin fan.  I was rooting for the Skins to take down the Cowboys, while he was rooting for Washington to lose and get a better shot at a quarterback in the draft.  It's not easy being a Skins fan these days.
Pick -Seahawks
ATS - Seahawks (-3.5)

Patriots at Eagles - Philadelphia is not your average 4-6 team.  They've been in every single game they've played this year, and a few more clutch plays could have put them at 8-2 instead of a longshot for a playoff spot.  The Eagles defense is weakest in the middle of the field, which is where Wes Welker and the Patriots tight ends feast.
Pick -Patriots
ATS - Patriots (-3.5)

Broncos at Chargers - Count me among the Tim Tebow non-believers.  My concern with his offense is that, much like the 2008 Miami wildcat, it works against weaker teams but can't keep up with high-powered passing offenses.  Tebow's four wins have all come against teams ranked in the bottom half of the league in passing.  The one time he faced a strong passing offense, the Lions blew him out 45-10.  Detroit is 7th in the league in passing.  San Diego is 4th.
Pick - Chargers
ATS - Chargers (-6.5)

Steelers at Chiefs - You might be wondering why the NFL didn't flex this game.  Well, at the time they made the decision, Kansas City still shared a lead of the AFC West and Matt Cassel was healthy.  Now, we get to see a defense pummel Tyler Palko in primetime for the second straight week.
Pick - Steelers
ATS - Steelers (-10.5)

Come back Monday to see my pick for the Giants-Saints game.  Happy football everyone.
