Any Pats fan can tell you that this guy doesn't hold a candle to Ryan Mallett. |
There's a great slate of games this week, but as a New Yorker living in Boston, none is bigger than the Giants-Patriots Super Bowl XLII rematch. It's been almost four years since that game, but the wounds clearly have not healed up here. The good thing for the New England fans is that, if they can win this game and make about 500 more "Eli sucks" comments to me, they will actually travel back in time and reverse the outcome of that Super Bowl.
Last week: 10-3, 6-7 Against the Spread (ATS)
Season: 75-41, 53-57-6 ATS
Falcons at Colts - Indianapolis has the second worst run defense in the league, and Atlanta is 4-0 when Michael Turner gets more than 16 carries. Run the ball, Mike Smith.
Pick - Falcons
ATS - Falcons (-7)
ATS - Falcons (-7)
Buccaneers at Saints - Somehow, the Saints play the Buccaneers for the second time in 22 days, but have yet to play the Falcons. New Orleans is a much better team at home, and Drew Brees won't throw three interceptions like he did at Tampa.
Pick - Saints
ATS - Bucs (+9)
Browns at Texans - Houston isn't the most reliable team, but they sure have a knack for blowing out weak opponents. They've beaten the Colts, Dolphins, Titans and Jaguars by a combined 81 points.

Pick - Texans
ATS - Texans (-10.5)
Jets at Bills - Even if Darelle Revis shuts down Stevie Johnson, Buffalo still has plenty of options in the passing game. I don't think New York's 25th-ranked run defense will fare well against Fred Jackson.

Pick - Bills
ATS - Bills (-1.5)
Dolphins at Chiefs - With games against Miami and Denver before they travel to New England, we have a couple more weeks with Todd Haley's beard. Cherish them.

Pick - Chiefs
ATS - Chiefs (-4)
49ers at Redskins - As you may have seen, the 49ers are the first team since the 1920 Buffalo All-Americans to rush for a touchdown and not allow a rushing touchdown in each of their first seven games. Fun fact: in their short 15 year history, the original Buffalo football franchise was also named the All-Stars, Niagaras, Prospects, and Bisons.

Pick - 49ers
ATS - 49ers (-3.5)
Seahawks at Cowboys - Despite their losing record and humiliating primetime loss to the Eagles last week, the Cowboys are in an advantageous position. They play the Seahawks, Bills, Redskins, Dolphins and Cardinals in their next five games, and could easily be 7-5 heading into the home stretch.
Pick - Cowboys
ATS - Cowboys (-11.5)
Broncos at Raiders - His fumble last week shows exactly why Tim Tebow's throwing motion is flawed. Because he brings the balls back so far when he throws, Cliff Avril was able to knock it out and return it for a touchdown.
Pick - Raiders
ATS - Broncos (+7.5)
Bengals at Titans - The Bengals are one of the feel-good stories of the year, but their five wins have come against teams that are a combined 12-25.
Pick - Bengals
ATS - Bengals (+3)
Rams at Cardinals - What a win for St. Louis last week. Now that they're entering the easy portion of their schedule, don't be surprised to see the Rams rack up some victories.
Pick - Rams
ATS - Rams (+2)
Giants at Patriots - Pats fans are up in arms because Eli Manning had the audacity to compare himself to Tom Brady. I'd say it wasn't as bad as what Brady said when he last faced the Giants:
Pick - Giants
ATS - Giants (+9.5)
Packers at Chargers - San Diego just suffered a loss for the ages, its coach looks helpless, and its quarterback is playing so poorly that people assume that he's injured. So it would not surprise me at all if they won this game. The Packers are good, but they've had some close calls against an easy schedule.
Pick - Packers
ATS - Chargers (+5.5)
Ravens at Steelers - Despite Baltimore's romp in Week One, this will be another classic 17-13 victory where one team's quarterback will get killed on a fourth quarter play because he forgot his opponent has one of the best safeties in NFL history.
Pick - Steelers
ATS - Steelers (-3)
Bears at Eagles - Does anyone outside of Chicago enjoy watching the Bears? They're grossly underpaying their only plamaker, they are the only team in the league who still think Roy Williams is a starting wide receiver, and their quarterback constantly looks like he just lost a game of beer pong.
Pick - Eagles
ATS - Eagles (-7.5)

what the heck.. Why do I have to hear about buffalo history when I am reading the analysis of a niners game.
ReplyDeleteYou should know better than to expect actual logic from this blog. For the record, I don't think the Redskins' o-line, which gave up 10 sacks to the Bills last week, can handle Justin and Aldon Smith.
ReplyDeleteThere we go!!Although Redskins 0-line only gave up 2 sacks to us, but i think Beck was overcompensating for the Bills game by checking down to Helu a million times.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. Beck had a 63.8% completion rate, but for an awful 5.4 yards per attempt. His longest completion went for 17 yards. At this point, he's a poor man's Chad Pennington.
